Olympics

The towers affiliated to Scottish Association of Change Ringers will be performing a variety of ringing pieces in the run up to the 2012 London Olympic Games. Towers along the route of the Olympic Torch are being encouraged to ring when the torch passes near by. Ringing may also take place for the Opening Ceremony (27th of July), the Closing Ceremony (12th of August) or the Paralympic Games.

There are two pieces for bells as part of the Cultural Olympiad:

  1. Five Rings Triples
This is a special method that was created as part of the Cultural Olympiad by musician Howard Skempton. It was composed for 8 bells and is expected to take in the region of 12 minutes to ring. The "Blue Line" for Five Rings Triples can be found here, or a 6 bell version here. More information about 5 Rings Triples can be found here.

  2. Work Number 1197
This is also part of the Cultural Olympiad and consists of all the bells in the country ringing as loudly as possible for at least three minutes at 8am on the 27th of July (the opening day of the Olympics). Further information can be found on the All The Bells website.
More information about ringing for the Olympics world wide can be found on the Central Council website.
