Surprise Royal Practices

The Association will be holding Surprise Royal practices on the last Friday of each month from 7:00 - 9:00. The dates for 2012/13 are as follows:

Friday 28th September - Edinburgh St Cuthbert's
Friday 26th October - Edinburgh St Cuthbert's
Friday 30th November - Glasgow St Mary's
Friday 25th January - Edinburgh St Cuthbert's
Friday 22nd February - Glasgow St Mary's
Friday 26th April - Edinburgh St Cuthbert's
Friday 31st May - Aberdeen St Machar's (Surprise Major)

The goals of these practices are to build and practice the soft skills for ringing on 10 (rhythm, striking, ropesight, bell control) and to progress method knowledge. The practices are aimed at two groups of people:

Those who are ringing Surprise Royal for the first time. If you can ring a Surprise Major method and want to ring on 10 then these practices are for you. Please try to learn the line for 1/2 a course of Yorkshire Royal before the practice.

Those who can already ring Surprise Royal. We will be expanding and consolidating a standard repertoire of Surprise Royal methods along with practicing the soft skills listed above. If you are comfortable ringing Cambridge and Yorkshire then please learn or revise London (No 3) for the first practice in September.

I intend to stick to only one "focus method" at a time for the second group, which will be advised in advance of the practice, to minimize learning time and ensure that the whole band have learnt the same thing so that we have enough to ring it. There may be other things rung at the practice but they won't require learning in advance.

For further information please contact the ringing master, master@sacr.org.
